The Duke Stands Firm

The Duke gets his way.  I'm still getting used to it, but that is the way I asked to have it when I brought DD to him.

I am sick again.  Strep throat again.  Hopefully I did not jinx myself with my last post.  Lol.

The thing is, while the swab was being tested for a few days, I prayed that I would be able to bear through because last time I got really sick.  So by yesterday afternoon, even though the was feeling tired and coughing, my throat felt quite a bit better.  Imagine my surprise when I got home to find a message on my machine saying I tested positive for strep.

I told the Duke I was going to ask my friend, the one I call mom, since she was a nurse, to see if since I was doing so well if I really needed to still take the meds.

He said "Okay." But as soon as the phone started ringing he said...

Wait a minute, no matter what she says, you'll still be taking the antibiotics.

But I feel so much better, I really don't want to.

You still have to take it.

There may have been a bit of a pout as mom picked up the phone.  It is a good thing I believe in obeying, even when I don't want to, or I might have thought to put the phone on talk instead of speaker phone.  She said strep is strep, and can be sneaky and can hide ten reappear later, worse than before.  I've also been fighting a sinus infection since around Christmas on my own, so I'm worn out, she knows.  Yeah, she was right.  What could I say then?  And the Duke heard every word.

I then resigned myself.  I know he's only worried about me.  So I agreed and said I would obey, since I did not have time to say so when my friend answered the phone.  I was a bit down about the ten days of meds, but I tried not to let it show, I wanted to be respectful.

We'll today I'm glad I agreed.  I was up half the night coughing, and had to take my inhaler twice.  I have not had to take it in years.  I also am getting more soreness in my throat again.  So as soon as the pharmacy is open, we are heading over.

Submitting to the Duke is not always easy, sometimes it even hurts my heart in the moment to do so, to give up what I want so strongly.  But in the end, it is always for the best, and I'm always thankful when he puts his foot down.  Even all weekend, I really wanted to do stuff, but the Duke put his foot down.  Except for a trip to the doctor on Saturday, I had to lay down all weekend, and nap on Saturday.  It was hard, but he did it out of love and concern.  Thank you, Duke, for loving me enough to go against what I want at times to do what I need.

- The Duke's Deductions:

I am so glad EsMay obeyed me without requiring a spanking.  At first I thought that if she was feeling better than maybe she didn't need them. After all she probably knows her own body. But then I realized that it was my responsibility as the HOH to look after her, and to make the hard decisions for her. To tell her what she knows she has to do even when she doesn't want to. As an HOH my job is not to make the most popular decisions but the best ones. I knew my wife's health was more important than making her happy with me in that moment and it would make her happier in the long run to know I could say no to her and take care of her.

  2. Aww I hope you are completely well soon, EsMay. It can really wear you down

    1. I will, and if I don't rest enough, something tells me I have someone that will fix that. *gulp* LOL

  3. Glad you listened. Strep untreated can have serious consequences. I think I suggested last time this happened to throw out your toothbrush when you are done with your meds or you can re infect yourself. Stay in bed, get some rest and plenty of fluids. Hope you feel better very soon.

  4. Well I sure hope you're feeling better! I have a touch of something myself, and our youngest (stuffy, sore throat, coughing and ears hurt - ugh), I know it's miserable.

It is hard sometimes to submit when our idea is different, but I think that when we fight down that urge that our submission has even more value.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, I love reading here, and seeing the beautifully intricate connection you two are growing...ever stronger, and so lovely.

    (((hugs)))

    1. Oh, June, I hope you start to feel better soon, both of you. And your words deeply and truly humble me... thank you. I do feel fighting down my want to argue or complain really does bring me to a new level of submission, and in turn, makes me feel more centered, more safe,,, more beautiful even somehow.

  5. I hope you feel better Es May! We have a rule about finishing antibiotics because I used to stop taking them as soon as I felt better, it drove him crazy. I;m glad your following the Duke on this one :) Rest up

    1. Lol, yeah, I can see that driving him crazy. :) Thankfully the only time I did not finish was because the meds made me so sick the pharmacist said I needed to come off it. But it still is not fun to be on them. :S

  6. Well done to both of you. Knowing you should submit doesn't always make it easier in the moment when you want something else, so that took strength. And the duke is spot on with his deductions as well. It is definitely more important that our men do what they think is right instead of what they think will please us in the moment. Praying for a swift recovery for you EsMay!

    1. Thank you, River, I didn't look at it that way, that it took strength to submit when I didn't want to, but that is exactly what it took. Yes, I see his growth, and the confidence because of it, and my eyes mist over. I am so very proud of him.

  7. EsMay, I am so sorry to hear that you have to deal with streps again. But I am so glad that you obeyed the Duke and I am also very glad that he put his foot down and made sure you take the medication and get the rest you need. Sounds strange, but sometimes staying in bed can be really hard. Nevertheless, obey the Duke and get the rest you really need to recover, please. I hope you get better soon :)

    hugs

    1. Yes, staying in bed is really hard when I see how much work needs to be done around the house. It's still not 100% caught up from when I was sick for over a month before. Oh well, I just have to take it in stride. :) I promise to rest, but if the Duke will allow me, will try ten minutes here or there to tackle things. :)

  9. I think the Duke was right about this one...leaving strep untreated is potentially very dangerous. Better to go through the whole antibiotic course and get it all for good.

    1. That is what I have heard. :( Bad strep. I promise to finish the antibiotics, thankfully I'm really good about that, once I start, I will finish it. :)

  10. Standing ovation for the Duke! I know that with EsMay saying she felt better, your first instinct was to give in to her plea...so proud you stepped up. EsMay...very proud of you for listening to the Duke without making him spank you.

FYI...if you keep being reinfected with strep, you might want to consider 'sanitizing' your classroom...especially handles (door/drawer), desks, chairs, pens, pencils, etc. If you have a tendency to put your pen/pencil in your mouth, you should probably trash them after you finish your course of antibiotics.

Oh and BTW...if you are diagnosed with strep...not gonna go away without antibiotics even if you feel better. Once you finish this round of meds, you should probably go back to the doctor and ask for a second strep test to make sure this isn't a antibiotic-resistant strain.

Sending lots of prayers and healing energy...

    Hugs and Blessings...

    1. Thank you, Cat. :) I'm not actually a teacher... just a nanny.... but I do try to keep everything clean, and a cleaning lady comes in twice a month as well, today in fact. I didn't think of that, I might have to try to get in to my doctor in a week or two then, make sure it is really gone. Thank you for suggesting that. And Cat, thank you for cheering on the Duke so much. :) I am very proud of him too! :)

  11. Agree with Cat's comments. Don't forget your toothbrush and toothpaste as well as the Duke's. I don't know if it's still possible but you could call your doctor and ask if a shot is possible. Painful but might save you from 10 days of meds.

I hope you feel better soon! What a rough winter for you.

    1. Hmmm, never thought to check the Duke's brush since he didn't get sick either time. But mine I did replace. I'll have to swap his out too, just in case. I can't get back into the doctor this week, so the meds it is. Oh well, it's only twice a day, no real biggy, just annoying to have to remember. :)

  12. Great job, Duke! And Es May aren't you happy you submitted? I know it's tough. Sometimes I feel I'm superwoman and can do anything, even when I'm sick. I need the foot to be out down for me, too! Hope you feel better soon... Strep is yucky.

  15. I am very glad you listened to the Duke, Es May dear. And I have to tell you that I would have been standing at his shoulder and agreeing with him. Surely you would rather take a few antibiotics than be sick and miserable for ages.

However, I do hope you are beginning to feel a bit better now. Remember to finish the entire course! I look forward to hearing that you are on top of the world again soon.

    Hugs

  16. EsMay, I hope you are feeling stronger and the antibiotics are starting to do their job by now. It is always so miserable to be sick and being sick enough to need to be in bed for an extended period of time is even more so. So happy you have Duke to take care of you and help you to do that.

I wanted to tell you that my HoH, Sir Knight, and I used this post to discuss submissions in our Sit Down Discussion this morning. He felt your experience was an excellent example of submission and Duke's reaction one of well applied HoH in action. We are still new to this lifestyle (3 months) and it really is beneficial to have role models like you and Duke to help us on our journey. Thank you for your quiet leadership by example and the everpresent love shown in all your posts and verbal interactions. Ladybrittany

    1. Oh, Lady Brittany your words just zinged right to my heart. I don't even know that I can find words to let me know how much it means to me that we might be able to be an example to others. I really hope, and pray, that we are used to help other's marriages, and your words made me realize I don't have to wait until I can get training, I can just be an example now, and already help. Thank you, that means so mch to me. And I'm glad that SK liked the Duke's approach, I was floored, and so very thankful for how he acted. :)

Please feel free to leave any comments, but I do ask you to be kind. We go into this with eyes wide open after months of prayer, and a peace in our hearts that this is the right choice before God for our marriage. I am open to questions from those who wonder why we made this choice, but I would ask for no personal attacks. Thank you. :)
